In 2005, PeopleFund, a Community Development Finance Institution, formed PeopleTrust, a 501 (c)(3), in order to address Austin’s growing need for affordable homeownership. PeopleTrust partners with private and non-profit developers to create permanently affordable homeownership for working families and lower-income households.

PeopleTrust's most significant achievement is the administration and management of the shared equity homeownership program for the Mueller Development (Austin’s old municipal airport). PeopleTrust has an ongoing contract with Catellus, the master developer, and the Mueller Foundation, a community foundation that oversees all community benefits for the Mueller project, including affordable homeownership. Mueller is a significant and nationally recognized achievement. It provides a high-volume affordable homeownership partnership, allowing PeopleTrust to reach its goals and create a source of earned income. In 2008, PeopleTrust will close 71 affordable homes and 114 affordable homes in 2009 at Mueller. Over the next five years, PeopleTrust will close an estimated 600 affordable homes at Mueller.

Mission: Advocate for and provide permanently affordable homeownership opportunities to low- to moderate income families to increase the supply of workforce housing.
