PeopleTalk: Mayor Beth Krom
PeopleFund was happy to welcome Mayor Beth Krom of Irvine California. A UT alumnus and resident of Irvine since 1985, Mayor Krom pioneered the creation of Irvine's first Community Land Trust in 2006 to support the development of high quality, long-term affordable housing. The Community Land Trust model has proven effective in maintaining minimal foreclosures, despite the current economic downturn. Mayor Krom has brought her experience as a teacher, business owner, community volunteer and mother to her work on the Irvine City Council.
Following Mayor Krom's presentation, Kelly Weiss, Executive Director of PeopleTrust, Austin's first Community Land Trust, discussed local initiatives to address affordability here in Austin. PeopleTrust is the first Community Land Trust within the state of Texas.
