Director of Homeownership

Austin PeopleTrust is a non-profit organization focusing on shared equity homeownership, including shared appreciation loans and a community land trust model, to provide affordable homeownership for lower income households in the Central Texas region. 

Seeking team-oriented person with strong customer service, organizational/systems management and housing development experience to run PeopleTrust’s homeownership program.  In addition, this person will oversee organizational administrative functions, direct and manage project development, and assist with fundraising and grant development, under leadership of the Executive Director.

  • 70% Homeownership Program Director
    • Responsible for creating, overseeing and administering the system, processes, and policies for homeownership program
      • Generating and managing list of perspective homeowners
      • Helping get potential applicants ready for homeownership, including managing and coordinating homebuyer education and orientation sessions
      • Administration of PeopleTrust assets
      • Working with construction lenders and funders, mortgage lenders, title companies, attorneys, realtors, appraisers, inspectors, and other parties related to housing development and home sales
      • Contract and document review and negotiation related to pre-development, development/construction, and home sales
    • Responsible for directing and managing homeownership development projects, including acquisitions and partnerships with private and non-profit builders of a variety of housing products (attached, detached, and condo products) and developments (infill, subdivision, and mixed-use development)
      • Project due diligence, planning, underwriting, budgeting
      • Project management
      • Preparation and review of development, construction, and homebuyer subsidy loan/grant requests, including pro forma development
    • Responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with PeopleFund, public entities (such as the local housing authority and local housing finance corporation), private developers, and other non-profit community based organizations.
    • Attend and represent PeopleTrust at community meetings, public events, and other functions, as required
    • Assist with PeopleTrust public relations and its continuing advocacy role in the community
    • Assist with policy advocacy to promote the mission and goals of PeopleTrust
    • Manage PeopleTrust program staff
  • 10% Administrative Support
    • Oversee general organizational administration including:
      • Bookkeeping (through outside bookkeeper) and financial reporting
      • Board reporting requirements
      • Grant compliance and reporting
  • 10% Outreach Support
    • Developing organization knowledge and research on relevant topics for shared equity housing
    • Overseeing creation of marketing/organizational materials
    • Coordination of website with outreach staff
  • 5% Fundraising Support       
    • Assist with grant writing and organizational funding opportunities
    • Assist with donor program and follow-up
    • Assist Executive Director and Development Director on donor cultivation opportunities
  • 5% Executive Support
    • Assist Executive Director with reporting and other tasks related to ongoing projects and organizational needs
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Skills

            Texas residential real estate and mortgage lending experience

            Affordable housing development and lending experience

            Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Process and detail-oriented person

Ability to work in high-production environment

            Strong customer service skills with high degree of empathy

            Strong communicator in both written and verbal form

            Enjoys problem solving and is able to adapt and react to changes easily

            Team player

While not required, skills or experience in any of the following areas/activities are desirable:

-  Managing a nonprofit housing, community development, or other organization, or a major program of such an organization

-  Housing development certification (e.g., NDC HDFP Certification)

-  Public relations, marketing, grant writing or preparing publications

-  Database application development and maintenance

-  Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Housing/Real Estate Finance, or equivalent

-  Previous experience with start-up organization

-  Bilingual (Spanish)
