PeopleFund was happy to welcome Leslie Parrish, Senior Researcher for the Center for Responsible Lending in Washington, D.C. The Center is a pioneer in creating innovative policies to combat predatory lending in it's many forms. Year after year in Central Texas we borrow over $90 million in payday loans and pay almost $15 million in fees. Interest rates on these types of loans often exceed 350% annually. PeopleFund and United Way Capital Area are excited to lead the efforts locally in creating alternatives to Payday Loans through Bank-On Central Texas.
Leslie has worked with the New America Foundation's Asset Building Program as well as the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED).
Following Leslie's presentation we will hold a panel discussion with Tanya Ladha of PeopleFund, Emily DeMaria of United Way Capital Area and Ann Baddour of Texas Appleseed to discuss exciting alternative lending projects here in Central Texas.
